Blog Post Does a 180
My sister came to help out the Kasner Household and the past 3 days were filled with many memories. Dan left to ref hockey and I sat down with my computer to reminisce by writing and looking at photos that were snapped of her interaction with my crazy family. But the next thing I knew I found tears streaming as I watched a video of a little boy that had his life changed by a familiar Gillette Spine Surgeon. I can’t even remember how I stumbled upon it but the next video in queue was about a little boy named Lincoln that has Cerebral Palsy with a very similar story to Caleb that I watched multiple times and so my sister post has been hijacked and will show up in a future post. However, to ensure I do not discredit the appreciation I have for her coming to visit, here is a picture of her riding the bus home from school with Caleb. This doesn’t do justice to the conversation and the interaction they had while on the bus. We love you Auntie Krissy.
I was so amazed by how familiar Lincoln’s story was to Caleb’s such as:
Started life in the NICU
First year of life seemed perfect
A little late to sit-up
Only army crawled
Late to walk
Right toe walk
Comforting words by others (including pediatricians) to not be concerned
Casting and AFO brace
Numerous mentions of maternal concerns with no one validating them
Cute as can be
I quickly browsed some photos of Caleb when he was a baby to remind myself when did he really roll over, sit-up, stand-up, etc. Instead my eye was drawn to the similarities in his arm and hand position both then and now (see pics below). It’s amazing we never noticed this for how in-tune I thought I was with my sweet baby Caleb.
Caleb - So many people love you! Thanks for just being you, exactly as you are, as I know God made me to be your mom. I promise to always use my maternal instincts to get my questions answered so that we are all equipped with the best possible information to help you be successful in life.
